I am a life-long resident of Adams County and currently own a CPA business in Decatur. My accounting background helps me with my position as treasurer of the Adams County Cancer Coalition. I have been married since 1980 and have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. I have been involved with many different not-for-profit organizations over my lifetime but the Adams County Cancer Coalition is very near and dear to my heart.
I became involved with raising money for cancer research and patient assistance when my father was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 1986. Unfortunately he died less than 3 months from diagnosis. When my mother-in-law was diagnosed with the same type of cancer in 2004, she lived 2 years of quality life before passing away in 2006. That confirmed to me that cancer research and treatments had definitely improved drastically in that span of 20 years.
I would love to see cancer cured within my lifetime, but if not that soon, then hopefully in my children’s or grandchildren’s lifetime. In the meantime, I am so happy to be involved with a group of wonderful people that have devoted their lives, like me, to help others struggling with this awful disease.
